My Dallas Experience

(This is actually from a news story about this week's flooding in Dallas.)

So I found the photos online, but they almost tell the story. I flew to Dallas on Wednesday night for EY's Firmwide Orientation. My flight was only an hour long from San Antonio, but it was delayed 3 hours due to a storm in Dallas. Turns out it was one of the nastiest storms that area has seen in years. Some people I talked to that live in Dallas said they can't remember any storm worse than that one. For a good 24 hours there was lightning, thunder, and downpour. It rained an estimated 10" in 24 hours in Dallas and caused a lot of flooding in areas.

I was staying downtown in a hotel on the 23rd floor, so I opened up my curtains and laid in bed watching the storm for a while before falling asleep. It was bright outside from the constant lightning flashes and booms of thunder woke me up throughout the night. I bought an umbrella at the hotel in the morning (which wasn't cheap) and I still was soaked by the time I made the 5-block walk to the EY office.

I haven't experienced a storm like that in a long time and it brought me back to some fun mission experiences. I remember frantically biking home through a storm worse than that where I almost got struck by a bolt of lightning.

So that was quite the welcome to Dallas and I decided I'm really glad to be in San Antonio and not Dallas :). Also, the water there is nasty. nasty. nasty.

The orientation was good and I was able to meet a lot of other interns who were really nice. I'm excited for the real work to start, but we still have a week of training in Houston next week. Pray there isn't a hurricane to try to top this last experience!!

So I'm guessing by this you haven't been in San Antonio during a good storm then? It floods like crazy everytime get get a decent rain because of the soil and terrain and such. Somebody dies everytime it rains. They try to drive through a low water crossing and get swept away. Pretty rediculous.

Wow, pretty crazy...kind of reminds me of the night Grandma and Grandpa Tanner's basement flooded, which you, luckily, didn't have to experience. =) Hope the weather is nicer next time!
