On the Church website, there is small article about a new iPhone app called "The Mormon Channel." So, naturally I had to check it out. Here is a quick rundown of the pro's and con's in my opinion (and after playing around with it for just a few minutes):
Pros:
- Audio format of all conference talks for every session of conference since 2003.
- Audio format of all Ensign, New Era, and Friend magazine articles for each issue since 2004.
- Audio format for the complete standard works!!
- Mormon Channel radio station streaming.
- Everything loads quickly and is very clear.
- Simple and attractive interface.
Cons:
- Requires internet connection (only a problem for iPod Touch users like me since I have to rely on WiFi)
- Does not include Joseph Smith manual or Sunday School participant guide (maybe in the future?)
- Mormon channel radio does not keep playing when the screen goes dark. Looks like a possible bug. So to keep listening, you must keep the device from going into the power-saver mode.
Overall:
- A must-have app!!! It will only get better with future updates. Major props to the Church for creating such a useful application to connect us better with the words of living prophets and apostles!!!
