Afton's arrival into this world was very smooth, for which I am very grateful. If you want to read the non-gory details of her arrival, read on. If not, then press Page Down and look at the darling photos at the bottom of this post.
The night before I was feeling a lot of pressure in my lower abdomen....which was Afton wanting to escape :) Because of this pressure, I did not sleep well. The morning of I was having some contractions, but they were irregular and stopped after an hour (around 10) so I figured she was coming soon, but not today. That didn't stop me from sending Brad a text which probably made him useless at work for the rest of the morning :)
So I just went about my day, writing blog posts and crossing off some to-do's. I went to get the mail around 2:00 pm and of course dropped half of it. When I bent down to pick it up I couldn't decide if my water had broke or if I had wet myself a little bit. (No, there wasn't a gush like in the movies) 30 minutes later I realized my water had broke. So I called the midwives, then called Brad and told him we needed to get to the hospital!
Brad was literally just about to start a meeting when I called, Afton has AWESOME timing. Regardless he dropped everything and made it home in record time, which was good, because my contractions were now regular and were about 5 minutes apart and were starting to hurt a bit.
By 3 ish we were at the hospital and the midwives confirmed that my water had broke and we went over to L&D. By this time I was very much ready to have my epidural, and Brad was ready too :) By 5:30 the epidural was in, the pain was gone, and Brad was looking much less worried.
Time flew by and a little before 10 the midwives came in and said, time to push! This part of labor was kind of funny to me because I just felt pressure, no pain, and when you think of laboring women you think of screaming and lots of pain. But when I think back, I felt very calm and excited, and I was laughing to myself a little, because I should have been in pain. I think I may have a weird sense of humor.
Before I knew it, it was 10:41 and my baby was in my arms. Let me tell you that is the most surreal moment of your life. I could hardly comprehend that I was holding my baby, this being that had been in my belly for 9 months was now in my arms!
Now for pictures! Because really, that's all you wanted anyways :)
